Tallahassee, Fla. — On Friday, October 10, Rep. Ryan Chamberlin filed a bill titled: “Freedom 1.” In short, it is the first of his three-tiered plan to reduce and replace property taxes with some other form of taxation. Chamberlin’s plan outlined as “Freedom 1 - 2 - 3” has as its first proposed step a mandated property tax rollback for all taxing entities in the state of Florida that levy a property tax.

“The first thing we must do to start down the road of eliminating property taxes and the best thing we can do to provide immediate relief is to pass a legislatively mandated rollback,” said Rep. Ryan Chamberlin. “With property tax levies having grown on average by almost 50% over the last 4 years, it makes sense to immediately reduce levies to the 2022-2023 fiscal year levies.”

Property tax reductions will vary depending upon the type of property an individual or business owns and the county in which it is owned. However, it is estimated that in general, such a rollback should result in a minimum 20% reduction in property taxes owed for property owners in fiscal year 2027-2028.

Chamberlin continued: “I love the DOGE the counties and cities effort right now currently being led by State CFO Blaise Ingoglia, but by reducing the revenue flow to local governments, we will place the burden of DOGE onto those local officials who have spent too much of our massive property tax levies over the past 5 years.”
