For the Primary Election, Early Voting will begin this Saturday, August 8! It’s hard to believe it’s almost that time again. This weekend, you can visit one of the many Early Voting locations in Marion County. Don’t forget to bring your photo ID. In Florida, we take election integrity seriously. Florida Concrete & Products Association

I enjoyed a tour of a Florida Concrete & Products Association cement mill in Sumter County. Ash Grove Cement really opened my eyes to the work being done to support Florida’s infrastructure and economic growth. The industry faces many challenges, but I’m proud of what they’re doing to create local jobs in the manufacturing sector, despite the competition from overseas markets. We need more of these kinds of businesses within commuting distance for our local workforce. I’m glad we have pro-America leaders at our state and federal levels who recognize the fundamental value of making things here. Let’s continue to support and expand our manufacturing capacity in this country!

Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion

I had the opportunity to speak alongside Jessica McClain to a packed house full of nonprofit leaders in the Marion County area. This is the second year we have held “Your Road to Appropriations,” an educational event put on by the Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion. Through these sessions, we have been able to help our nonprofits better understand the process of finding state funding to help with projects that better our community. I look forward to continuing this workshop in future years and hopefully expanding it for other counties to benefit as well.

10th Annual SKY Valor Award Ceremony & Reception

I attended a very moving and inspiring event, 97.3 THE SKY’s 10th Annual SKY Valor Award Ceremony and Reception. We heard so many stories of bravery and valor from our first responders. It was humbling to be reminded how much this group  serves our county and district, often without our knowledge or recognition. The members of Marion County Fire Rescue who were honored had performed heroic resuscitation on an unresponsive three-year old who was feared dead by drowning. Through their immediate action and professional abilities, they were able to save the child and restore him to full health.

It was an honor simply to be present for the ceremony and to show support for those who received the award. Guest speaker Senator Stan McClain did an excellent job, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s ceremony.

Endorsements

I am proud to have earned the endorsements of the Florida Policy Benevolent Association and the Florida Professional Firefighters. It goes without saying how indebted we are to the men and women of law enforcement and first response who keep us safe and make our communities stronger. In particular, I salute the officers of the Ocala Police Department, the deputies of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the firefighters of Marion County Fire Rescue. I will always work with their leadership to make sure they have the resources they need and full support from those of us in the Florida Legislature.

Ending Property Taxes

As always, let me know what you think about property tax reform in Florida. I continue to campaign for full elimination of property taxes in the Sunshine State! I believe we are making progress each day as we build awareness and explain the inexcusable consequences of property taxes for property owners.
